2023 Election Information

Oct. 14, 2023 – Gubernatorial Primary Election
The following is important information for the Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023 Gubernatorial Primary Election:
- The qualifying period for candidates is Aug. 8-10. Local and municipal candidates qualify with the clerk of court in the parish in which they are registered to vote (contact your local clerk of court for office hours). Federal and state candidates qualify at the Louisiana State Archives located at 3851 Essen Lane in Baton Rouge between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Qualifying fees must be paid in the form of cash; certified or cashier’s check on a state or national bank or credit union; U.S. postal money order; or money order issued by a state or national bank or credit union and must be accompanied by the qualifying form.
- The deadline to register to vote in person, by mail or at the OMV Office is Sept. 13.
- The deadline to register to vote through the GeauxVote Online Registration System is Sept. 23.
- Early voting is Sept. 30 through Oct. 7 (excluding Sunday, Oct. 1) from 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m.
- The deadline to request an absentee ballot is Oct. 10 by 4:30 p.m (other than military and overseas voters). You can request an absentee ballot online through our Voter Portal or in writing through your Registrar of Voters Office.
- The deadline for a registrar of voters to receive a voted absentee ballot is Oct. 13 by 4:30 p.m. (other than military and overseas voters).
- On election day, the polls are open from 7 a.m.-8 p.m.
Nov. 18, 2023 – Gubernatorial General Election
The following is important information for the Saturday, Nov. 18 Gubernatorial General Election:
- The deadline to register to vote in person, by mail or at the OMV Office is Oct. 18.
- The deadline to register to vote through the GeauxVote Online Registration System is Oct. 28.
- Early voting is Nov. 3-11 (excluding Sunday, Nov. 5 and Friday Nov. 10 for Veterans Day) from 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m.
- The deadline to request an absentee ballot is Nov. 14 by 4:30 p.m (other than military and overseas voters). You can request an absentee ballot online through our Voter Portal or in writing through your Registrar of Voters Office.
- The deadline for a registrar of voters to receive a voted absentee ballot is Nov. 17 by 4:30 p.m. (other than military and overseas voters).
- On election day, the polls are open from 7 a.m.-8 p.m.
How to Become an Election Commissioner
To serve as a Certified Commissioner one must be the following:
- a qualified voter who is not entitled to assistance in voting;
- shall not be a candidate for public office in the election;
- shall not be a child, brother, sister, parent or spouse of a candidate for election to public office in the precinct in which he serves;
- shall not have been convicted of an election offense;
- have attended a course of instruction for commissioners;
- shall not be a law enforcement officer.

- Follow the instructions until test is complete.
- Take a screen shot of test results.

Upon completion, your name will be placed on the roster of Certified Commissioners from which Commissioners are drawn to serve in each election. You will be certified through June 2024 and will not have to complete re-certification before that date. The pay for Commissioners for each election if $200.
